Cultural Activities

Kitchener is home to many cultural events, such as CAFKA, the Open Ears Festival, IMPACT Theatre Festival, the Multicultural Festival, the Kitchener Blues Festival, and KidsPark. Kitchener also includes venues such as Homer Watson House and Gallery, Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery, THEMUSEUM, JM Drama Alumni, and Centre in the Square.

Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest is a annual festival that lasts nine days and is named Canada's Greatest Bavarian Festival. It is set on every October and it starts on the Friday before the Canadian Thanksgiving and ends on the Saturday of the week after. It is well-known for its beer-based and cultural events. The Oktoberfest Thanksgiving Day Parade is famous in the festival and is the only major parade held on the Canadian Thanksgiving. The icon of this fest is Miss Oktoberfest, which is a televised beauty pageant with applicant from all across Canada and USA. This festival from 1969.

The Kitchener Blues Festival is a 4-day festival in downtown Kitchener solely dedicated to blues music. It is held in August on the weekend after the civic holiday. The festival has over 90 performances on 4 stages and 2 workshop stages. The first-day event has 3,000 audiences and grows into 150,000 by the fourth day. As of 2014, the Kitchener Blues Festival celebrates its 14th anniversary.

The KOI Music Festival is a 3-day event held every September in downtown Kitchener. It was started in 2010 and held free concerts on Friday as well as full-day performances on Sunday. KOI performances features more than 100 rock bands from all over Canada, such as Every Time I Die, Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker, Chiodos, and Four Year Strong.

Kitchener-Waterloo Multicultural Festival is a 2-day event usually held on the first weekend of summer in Victoria Park. It includes food, music, and dances from all around the world. This festival is ongoing for 40 years with more than 50,000 attendants every year.
